"But Mama look - the cake is right in there, I can see it. Please put it here, right where I am pointing (did I mention that you should do this now, immediately, if not sooner)." This is pretty much what happened, I just didn't take pictures of the glorious 2-year-old fit that followed these pictures.
But who can blame the kid, look at the cool cake! Dirt digger cake with edible dirt (okay dirt is edible to most kids, but even I ate this kind). As you can see in the next picture, Darien is using his new diggers as a means to get the cake in his mouth.
Here are the two friends that came over to Darien's birthday barbeque. He is opening his present here, a cool Cars book with a steering wheel and buttons.

Darien loves his lawn mower and is chasing Connor around. Connor can't get away because he is way too big for Darien's tricycle and can't peddle it.
The tricycle has a handle so Darien can be pushed around. He is quite impressed that he can push Connor around (it is usually the other way around and not just when the tricycle is involved).
This is on Darien's actual birthday wearing his prized possession -fire boots. When Auntie Chris and Uncle Brad came to visit Darien kicked a shoe into the ocean and scored these cool wellies. He won't wear anything else and doesn't want to take them off when he gets into the house.
Not sure how we got talked into this (Connor) but Darien had two birthday cakes this year. How can you not have a cake when it is your ACTUAL birthday. He caught on quickly to the blowing the candle out routine.
And why not have a dessert after dessert??
